Miss NJ International joins Empower Somerset at Reading Cinema in Manville

MANVILLE — If you’re between the ages of 18 and 25, join EmPoWER Somerset and Miss New Jersey International 2010, Brielle LaCosta, from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 at Reading Cinemas in Manville.

Jonathan Sampson, managing director at Reading Cinema in Manville, said “We are very excited to be hosting the SIPS event for EmPoWER Somerset and we really believe in the positive social changes their initiative is striving to make.”

EmPoWER Somerset will be hosting its final audition event for their “Be the Voice of SIPSNATION.com” contest which ends on Thursday, Sept. 30. Participants will receive free t-shirts, movie tickets and an autograph from Miss New Jersey.

As part of the plan for SIPSNATION.com, EmPoWER Somerset currently is conducting a contest in order to find a spokesperson that will represent and “Be the Voice” of SIPSNATION.com. The spokesperson will immediately receive a $200 American Express gift card. They also will be a vital component to the success of the Web site as well as interacting in monthly events and educational forums.

EmPoWER Somerset will offer a monetary incentive for the spokesperson’s involvement.

EmPower Somerset is a nonprofit agency located in Somerville that recently started a movement called Somerset’s Initiative for Partying Safely (SIPS). According to SIPS project manager Lauren Greenberg, the initiative seeks to reduce underage drinking and access to alcohol as well as to reduce binge drinking and DUI’s in the 21 to 25 age range.

In order to reach out to 18 to 25 youth, SIPS has created a Web site, SIPSNATION.com, which serves as a media tool made by and for 18- to 25-year-olds in order to get the word out about this powerful movement.
